This section of our web site contains a small portion of the material covered in the recent three-day workshop held in the Biology Department at Brookhaven National Laboratory, September 18-21, 1996. Participants discussed gold cluster labeling at great length, and in the laboratory successfully labeled a number of their own specimens with undecagold and Nanogold. The workshop included hands-on sessions with STEM, transmission electron microscopy, specimen preparation for STEM observation, and silver enhancement of Nanogold® for ultrasensitive staining of blots and gels.

Nanoprobes at Other Conferences

Microscopy & Microanalysis '98
Atlanta, GA; July 12 - 16, 1998

Nanoprobes sponsored a symposium on Recent Advances in Labeling where a presentation was given on results obtained with new types of combined fluorescent and metal cluster probes based on larger metal clusters and nanoparticles. Other speakers in this symposium described results obtained with gold cluster labels and combined fluorescent and gold probes.

Jim Hainfeld (President of Nanoprobes) and Rick Powell (Research Director) were also instructors for the Gold Labeling Workshop for half a day on Sunday, July 12. The workshop included colloidal gold labeling, gold cluster labeling, in situ detection and autometallography (silver enhancement), and the principles and practice of combined fluorescent and gold probes.

5th US-Japan Meeting of Histochemistry and Cytochemistry
San Diego, CA; July 23-26, 1998. We also sponsored a symposium on New Frontiers in Gold Labeling at this meeting, at 3:00 pm on Friday, July 24. This included a presentation by Jim Hainfeld.

14th International Congress on Electron Microscopy
Cancun, Mexico; August 31 - September 4, 1998

Jim Hainfeld described some recent results with Nanogold-NTA-Ni(II) at this meeting, as part of a symposium on Advances in Immuno-Electron Microscopy at 10:45 am on Monday, August 31.

6th International Conference on Molecular Morphology (IMMC)
Jim Hainfeld and Rick Powell gave presentations at the 6th International Conference on Molecular Morphology (IMMC) which was held at the University of Salzburg, October 5-9, 1998. Wednesday, October 7 was designated the "Golden Day" and will include both our presentations.

It is hoped that another gold cluster labeling workshop will be organized in the future. Keep an eye on our web site for details. In the meantime, here are a couple of pics from the first one...
